UMCS, Lublin
It took 50 years for a school of journalism to appear at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin.
Founded in October 23rd 1944 as a state university, UMCS is now a major centre of education in Eastern Poland, with almost 35 thousand students enrolled on full time, extramural, and evening undergraduate, graduate and teacher training courses provided by ten faculties in 30 different study programs. The university employs approximately 1800 staff members.
Postgraduate and doctoral study programs are increasingly popular. In order to meet the ever-growing educational needs, the university has recently established teacher training schools and licensed colleges outside Lublin.
The Chair of Journalism and Public Communications, established in 1994, is one of the youngest divisions at the Political Sciences Faculty.
Journalism course offered at the Political Sciences Faculty results in Licenciat degree which is the Polish equivalent of BA.
Journalism is also taught at the Humanities Faculty, where a 2-year course resulting in Master's degree is offered on extramural basis.
