Ukraine's university-based journalism training has been put on the world map as an example of positive work during a representative international conference.
Dr Volodymyr Rizun, director of the Institute of Journalism of the Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, addressed a confernece in Baku, Azerbaijan, detailing the work in progress with Project Zhorna. He described it as "a beautiful partnership."
The Project is working with the Kyiv-based Institute and the departments of jurnalism in Uzhgorod and Simferopol Tavria national universities.
The November conference was organised by the Council of Europe's sub-Committee on the Media and was held to discuss "A European dimension in the professional education and training of journalists."
Following strong interest in the work underway in Ukraine, Tony Howson, Zhorna's project team leader, met with universities from the region to discuss the Bologna process and issues of modernising curricula. He also attended as a panel expert at the two-day conference.
