Zbigniew Bujak talks to KIJ students
The legendary activist of the underground "Solidarity" trade union in Poland and, later, an MP and minister, Zbigniew Bujak told students in Kyiv that they, as journalists, can play an important role in the future European integration of Ukraine.
Zbigniew Bujak came to the Institute of Journalism at the Kyiv National University with mediatory help of "ZHORNA" Project.
The former dissident does not agree with everything in the present policy of Polish government. Zbigniew Bujak, for instance, thinks that Polish borders should be opened for free import of goods from Ukraine.
According to Zbigniew Bujak, who spent three weeks at the Independence Square in Kyiv, the heart of mass protests during the Orange Revolution, it will be harder to convince Ukrainians of the necessity to join NATO and European Union than it was with Poles.
Thuis is why, says Zbigniew Bujak, it is so important for future jurnalists in Ukraine to watch European Union's policy and be able to provide accurate and truthful information on processes taking place in this organisation. Similarly important is to inform NATO and EU citizens and officials about what Ukrainians' real attitude towards these two alliances is because knowing each other leads to better understanding.
